We have an unprecedented policy opportunity coming up and must get our voices heard at the White House Conference on Food, Nutrition, Hunger and Health.

After several years of planning, President Biden and Susan Rice have given the go-ahead for the first White House Conference on Health and Nutrition since 1969. It will take place in September.

In an effort to hear from parties across the board, the committee is holding listening sessions and breakout groups over the next month to field input and concerns. What ultimately comes out of such conferences is usually issued in executive orders, bypassing longer red-tape processes.

Our goal is for one of the executive orders to halt the spray of glyphosate as a pre-harvest desiccant, the main source of dietary exposure to Roundup. Second, to stop all chemical pre-harvest spray including paraquat and glufosinate.

Over the last two years, I have not heard pesticides mentioned anywhere in this conversation of revamped food and health policy. Of course, this omission isn’t particularly surprising to those who are aware of how heavily influenced food policy is by AgChem and BigAg. It makes our voices that much more important.
